Homemade Father's Day Gifts

June may not be here quite yet, but the girls in this house, but Father's Day is a BIG deal around here.  Mostly because the Husband's birthday is so close to Father's Day they usually get celebrated together.  Last year I put on a small, but fun Crab Feast to celebrate.  In all honesty, there won't be anything that fancy this year.

With T being such a Daddy's girl, I know that at least one something homemade is in order.  Here are a few ideas that are cute and super toddler friendly:

Decorating old fashioned Coca Cola bottles is an adorable idea...though I'd be more likely to use this concept on a six-pack of beer!  (from The Idea Room)

I grew up with my father watching the Master's every Father's Day.  These tie boxes from Eighteen25 would be the perfect little personal treat for watching golf from the sofa.

This "Dad" cutout frame from Martha Stewart really hits the simple and sweet button perfectly!

Then again, there's nothing sweeter than a homemade card...and the Husband still has yet to receive any gift stating "# 1 Dad"!  (photo via My Crafty Designs)

Memorial Day Recap

I hope everyone had a happy and family-filled Memorial Day.  We were lucky enough to have the Husband's brother and his wife over for the weekend.  We also cheated and had our cookout on Sunday instead of Monday...which means Monday was thankfully quite relaxing!

Of course the weekend started off with remembering the reason for the celebration.  While we don't personally know anyone lost in service to our country; we know plenty of acquaintances who have.  It's hard not to with so much military influence around here.  This wouldn't be the great nation it is without our military; especially those heroes that sacrificed their lives to make it what it is today.

The weekend wasn't without its fun, either.  The husband and his brother grilled beer can chicken, bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapenos and rib eye steaks.  I made strawberry basil granita (post coming soon!), T got to play in the sprinkler for a while, and we just generally enjoyed the beautiful weather and each other's company.

Memorial Day Sweets & Treats

To continue the Memorial Day fun, I’ve come across some seriously cute treats that just had to be shared!  No doubt there will be a lot of patriotic inspiration coming up over the next month with July 4th just around the corner, too.  So let’s get our patriotic on and have fun!

Why not start off the day with a mix of regular and red velvet pancakes, as described by I am Baker?

I'm always looking for healthy treats to offset all the gorgeous sweets. Add a little patriotic flair to your lunch or for a pot-luck with this watermelon/cheese/blueberry flag. (as seen at Wenderly)

Simulate bottle rockets and other fireworks with push pops and cheesecake skewers from Kitchen Fun with My Three Sons and the Lady Behind the Curtain.

What's more American than pie, right? How about finishing off the day with this patriotic cherry pie from the Larson Lingo? (you could also probably do Strawberry-Rhubarb if cherry isn't your thing).

Do you have any special treats you make for Memorial Day?

{Mama Monday} Pregnancy Update

I officially graduate to 33 weeks pregnant tomorrow!  My nerves and concentration have been shot over the last couple of weeks.  It’s hard to imagine that at this point in my last pregnancy, T was only two weeks away from being born.

I’m also realizing just how much I’ve forgotten about my pregnancy with T.  Just so I don’t let mommy brain take away any more of my memories, here’s a quick comparison of my two pregnancies so far:

T: Pretty darn close to ready three months in advance.  Although I didn’t feel emotionally or physically ready even the day before her birth.

The only corner semi finished...
Baby 2: What’s preparation?  If this kid were born tomorrow, she wouldn’t have a place to sleep. The crib is full of junk, and we need to go get our co-sleeper back from the couple we lent it to a year and a half ago.  Oops!

Morning Sickness:   T:  Mild all-day nausea until about 14 weeks.  Easily managed with small quantities of salty food.

Baby 2: Sick from week 4 through just a couple weeks ago.  Unsuccessfully tried medication.  Managing third trimester sickness with a balance of avoiding trigger foods, and only eating just enough.

Baby Position:

For this to make any sense, you’ll first need to know that I found out during my first pregnancy that I have what’s called a bicornuate uterus.  Not a huge deal, it just means that I’ve got a dip to the top of my uterus that cramps the space a bit and can make it more likely that I’ll have a breech baby or preterm delivery.

T: Left side, head up.  Her head was lodged in my left rib cage for at least the last couple weeks.

Baby 2: Right side, head down.  Her bottom’s currently lodged in my right rib cage, making breathing really difficult.

Movement:   T:  Felt all sorts of movement from about week 16 throughout the pregnancy.   Honestly, I really don’t miss those kicks to my cervix.

Baby 2: Anterior placenta kept me from feeling much until recently.  I’ve learned to enjoy and appreciate all the kicks and flutters!

Weight Gain: T: Gained a total of about 30 pounds.

Baby 2: Exactly 20 pounds so far.  I will admit that getting weighed in weekly makes me reconsider having those extra helpings (that and worrying about morning sickness.

The Husband and I keep saying that we've got a second little drama queen on the way. All I want is for her to last another six weeks before making her presence. We'll see!

{Inspiration Board} Graduation

We may not have a little graduate in our house, but I've been drooling over some gorgeous graduation party inspiration going around lately.

If only I'd seen this type of inspiration before planning my own graduation party back in 2002!  What do you do to celebrate your graduates?

Teacher Appreciation Printables

It seems as though I completely missed the boat on Teacher Appreciation Week last week!  That may or may not have something to do with the fact that T's daycare is celebrating this week instead.  Nonetheless, these printables may be useful next year or for the last day of school.  Enjoy!

Tell me, what did you do for Teacher Appreciation Week?
